I'm a potter based in Waitaha (Canterbury), Aotearoa.
In 2019, I signed up for a beginners course at Wellington Potters' Association through Wellington High School's Community Education Centre. It was a short introduction to the craft, covering basic throwing, trimming, and glazing techniques. After a couple of productive years of self-directed learning within the community club environment, I took an opportunity to move to rural Canterbury to set up a studio of my own and take up pottery full-time.
Before 'quitting my day job,' I spent over a decade in the coffee industry. Much of this time was with a mug in hand, exploring intersections of craft, science, and functional design within various hospitality and production spaces. This experience, along with a well-established coffee routine, was integral to the early stages of my ceramic practice and continues to inform much of my approach to making.
